Area of Focus: Executive Functioning

Executive functioning is a developmental skill set of cognitive skills. The main areas of executive functioning are working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. This relates to emotional regulation, organization, attention and initiating tasks. Many children with autism, attention disorders, and sensory processing delays also have executive functioning challenges.

At Acorn Children’s Therapy, our comprehensive approach addresses executive functioning skills within the context of school, home, and community participation. OT, PT, and speech work on compensatory strategies, task modification, and skill acquisition to help children improve their executive functioning.
